eBay Auctions and the Many Faces of Energy Drain

I'm selling some stuff to make room for other stuff; maybe you are interested in some of this?

LotFP Isle of the Unknown

Runequest Trollpak Box Set

Runequest Griffin Island Box Set

Runequest River of Cradles

Runequest Apple Lane

Runequest Snake Pipe Hollow

RIFTS Lot

And since I always try and pay my Joesky Tax, Brendan's post here inspired me to knock up a chart of the variants on bog-standard energy drain I would use in my games:

The Many Faces of Energy Drain
These mechanics...
...are good at modeling:
Half of the damage inflicted on the character is added to the monster's current HP (up to it's maximum HP value).
Monsters that drain the blood/lifeforce from a creature to fuel their own unnatural lives.
The character loses a level (and has its Hit Dice, Attack Bonus, Saving Throws, Class Abilities, etc. modified accordingly). The character's XP total remains the same; if they gain any XP they regain their lost level(s).
Monsters who leave their foes generally enervated, exhausted, or spiritually/physically shaken.
The character loses points in Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, or some combination thereof. These points may return with rest or possibly with the help of healing magic (Restoration, perhaps?).
Monsters who sap physical strength, endurance, or motor control through blood loss.
The character loses points in Intelligence, Wisdom, or some combination thereof. These points may return with rest or possibly with the help of healing magic (Restoration, perhaps?).
Monsters who sap sanity, mental endurance, or memories through mind-blasting terror.

  1. I would have bought Griffin Mountain, Snake Pipe Hollow and Trollpak if I didn't own them already. You are getting rid of good material there. Did you not like it or are you whittling down to a desert island collection?

    2. Would you give an example of gaming material you are not likely ever to get rid of.

    3. Lots of WFRP 1e stuff, like the Realms of Chaos books or the Enemy Within campaign books, as well as Call of Cthulhu stuff like Masks of Nyarlathotep and the Malleus Monstrorum.

  2. I see. Good reading material there too.
