After the mysterious and sudden insanity of her parents, Ivy Valerio was taken in by Father Ambert, a priest of Orthea who worked as the family confessor of a noble house in Umberwell. As she grew older, Ivy learned Father Ambert's trade; she proved particularly adept at interacting with the spirits of the faithful departed.
Ivy's tutelage under Father Ambert left its mark on her personality. She is a serious young woman who values tradition. She also judges herself and others harshly, holding them to a high standard that demands constant vigilance.
Ivy's life is now inextricably interwoven with the afterlives of the dead. She sees omens in everything, and claims that the spirits of the deceased are always lurking at the periphery of her vision. When Ivy uses divine magic, apparitions sometimes appear as part of the manifestation of her power. For example, when Ivy heals her allies, one might catch a brief glimpse of phantasmal old women quickly sewing the injured party's wounds shut with their knitting needles. When Ivy uses her power to gain a skill or knowledge not her own, a ghostly presence may be seen whispering the unknown technique or lore into her ear.
Ivy tends to garb herself in black, funereal dresses when not adventuring. Her armor is crafted to be a similarly ebon hue. Although she carries a mace and a crossbow, it is clear that neither has seen much use; Ivy is physically weak, so she prefers to wound her foes with the cleansing radiance of Orthea instead of engaging in hand to hand combat.
Ivy is a pale, dark-haired woman who seldom expresses her innermost emotions. She is businesslike in her dealings with others. However, that is not to say that she is entirely cold and impervious; Ivy finds that living rough grates on her and is not shy about expressing her preference for creature comforts.
